Licensing

What is a license?

A license is an agreement between the owner intellectual property and a user that allows the user to take certain actions with the intellectual property.

What is the difference between an “exclusive” and a “non-exclusive” license?

An exclusive license provides that only the licensee can perform the actions allowed under the license and no one else can have the same license to the technology.  Unless the license provides that the Licensor may practice the technology under an exclusive license, I cannot use the technology.  Thus, individuals and companies must be very careful in how an exclusive license is written.
